Margaret ReesMARGARET REES - ARTIST. Margaret grew up in the Fremantle area of Western Australia where she worked as a Private Secretary, was very involved in sporting activities and all types of creative works.  She completed many courses in dressmaking, cake decorating, embroidery, floral art, millinery, photography and excelled in all types of arts and crafts.

After marrying Derryck in 1967, they moved to Albany in W.A., then Deniliquin in NSW, Echuca Vic, Gold Coast Queensland and travelled around Australia by caravan.  After many years as a Legal Secretary and the birth of 2 sons, Margaret & Derryck operated a highly successful soft furnishing and decorating business in Melbourne specializing in creating window styles and designs and the manufacture of all fabrics into quality products.  They were involved in the presentation of window decorating & design conferences in the United States and around Australia winning No. 1 sales awards over a number of years.  Other business careers followed in the health & fitness industry and in hospitality with owning and operating for many years, the motel in Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula.

Margaret now has her own studio at home in Balnarring and paints mostly in oils.  She started her art journey at the end of 2006 and was trained in the traditional tonal method by her friend and wonderful tutor Cesar Sanchez at his private studio in Bittern.  “I consider myself very fortunate to have been taught by Cesar, to receive so much from his lifetime of painting experience and very extensive art knowledge”, said Margaret.

Her inspiration and love of nature surrounds her on the beautiful Peninsula.  She loves to paint all the birds and animals (especially cows), flowers, beach scenes, portraits and enjoys realism and detail in her work. She has successfully exhibited at Art Shows at Red Hill, Camberwell, Mornington, Flinders, Deniliquin, Somers, Bayside, Tyers, Leongatha, Korumburra and continues to attend many workshops and demonstrations by other highly respected artists. She currently exhibits her work for sale at Lazzar Boutique Winery, 2910 Frankston Flinders Rd, Balnarring and is an active member of the very progressive Peninsula Art Society. Margaret has been recognised with People's Choice Awards 3 times at Somers, at Mornington, Leongatha, Peninsula Arts Society and now at KernArt for her outstanding portraits of cows.

She has been awarded Best Oil at the 2016 huge Camberwell Rotary Art Show and at the 2019 Easter Deniliquin Rotary Art Show was given the Acquisition Award by the Judge which carried prize money of $2,000 provided by the Deniliquin Council along with the People's Choice Award for the same painting "Hereford Lineup".
